Pendleton has been weaving cold and frost defying textiles for around 9,000 years. There's a simple explanation for their longevity; they are "world class" in that industry. From fiber selection to weaving and quality control, this product is difficult to outclass.

This blanket is made with 100% virgin wool, which means the last place this wool was used was by the sheep. Wool is extremely durable and can retain most of its warming abilities even when wet. It is also extremely effective at absorbing dyes, and it doesn't wrinkle or snag. But it is more expensive than other fibers like cotton, presumably since most cotton doesn't try to escape while its fibers are harvested.

This series of blankets pay homage to eight National Parks in the US. Just like the parks, I found each of the blankets to be beautiful. What's not to like about the parks or the beloved employees who staff them, called Park Rangers? This may serve as an explanation for the lack of IRS and DMV themed blankets.

The itch, heft and warmth factors are superb. I scientifically tested for itch by running the back of my hand and the bottom of my forearm across this blanket. It is soft and smooth, but not silk, after all it is wool. If you've had the good fortune to have been in the military and experienced one of those olive drab, blankets with a big `US' stenciled on it, let me relieve you of any concerns here. I'm moderately sensitive to scratchy wool and those GI blankets felt like sleeping under a Scotch-Brite pad with sandpaper sheets. This blanket resides on the polar opposite of that.

The thickness is around the same as four credit cards stacked on top on each other. Like I said, it's scientific measurements here. This weight makes it easy to adjust and is very comfortable.

I used this blanket, side by side, with a poly fill bed cover to compare performance. This is where wool excels. Under the Pendleton I was able to get warm, and get warm quickly. The poly fill kept out the cold, but didn't retain body heat like the wool.

Also be informed that dry cleaning is recommended for this product versus machine washing, if that is a consideration. It's a very well crafted blanket, which should serve for many years to come. It's also made in the USA.
