Heavy Duty 304 Stainless Steel Kettle 8 gallon size is perfect for full wort boil on 5 gallon batches! These Heavy Duty stainless steel kettles are thick, hearty, and ready to stand up to years of abuse. Each kettle has two handles, a lid, and a re-enforced triple layer bottom. A 4mm aluminum plate between two 1mm stainless ones, provides for even heat distribution which can reduce the amount of scorching you may encounter, food-grade 304 stainless steel is the only metal in contact with your wort. Our kettle also has welded ports for the thermometer and valve not weldless gasketed ports that leak and break. The kettle includes the thermometer and 1/2 inch SS valve plus SS, stay cool handles and lid.

Though I didn't buy this item through Amazon, I did get it from the same vendor "Learn to Brew" as I wanted to get some malts and other supplies that Amazon doesn't offer. I *did* get free shipping through Learn to Brew.

After reading some of the very dismal reviews on other pots - even ones that *looked* good online, but buyers reported lower-quality pots than described shipped, I avoided the cheaper kettles.

This is a good one. The fittings are ARE welded, the kettle walls ARE thick, and the bottom is tri-clad and very thick! You will need to install the ball valve and thermometer into the welded ports, so you'll likely need some Teflon tape (unless you want to try to re-use the tape they include on the stainless plug they include in the thermometer port)

I'm a tiny bit concerned that the thermometer projects 5 or so inches into the pot - as I plan to use this pot for other things besides brewing. Depending on your intended use, you *may* not even need the thermometer (I likely won't use it for the boil, as I mas in a smaller kettle) but if this will be your mash tun, then you'll just have to be careful stirring and such.

At any rate, this is a top-quality item - even though it is made in China. (get over it, an "American" made one would cost double!)

VERY happy with the purchase, the vendor (use them direct for brewing supplies!) and plan to be brewing by next week.
