Seiko QXM277BRH Melody in Motion Clock Review

I've had this Seiko Melody in Motion clock for almost a week, and I am more than satisfied with it. I have a number of Seiko and Rhythm musical clocks, and this one is different in that it plays some different melodies than the others. I've always been impressed with Seiko quality among watches and clocks, and this clock is no exception. Unlike Rhythm clocks, the Seiko plays an opening and closing melody before and after each tune on the hour. The clock face splits outward from six o'clock and pivots at twelve o'clock, as the image shows. It does this as the melody plays, two or three times, depending on the length of the tune. Meanwhile, two discs are rotating, one clockwise, one counter-clockwise. These discs have colored crystals, but they do not light. Beneath six o'clock is the continually rotating disc, again with colored crystals, but no lights. There are colored LED's on either side of the rotating disc that light in time with the music. More lights would have been appreciated, but probably would have added to the cost.

The sound quality is great, and the melody plays longer than you might expect. You can control the volume, and when the room darkens, no melody plays. Three buttons at the bottom of the clock allow you to choose the group of melodies you want. Those buttons also serve as demo buttons, if you want to show it off to your friends. The case is plastic, but looks quite good. It runs on 4 "C" batteries, which are included. If you're on the fence about this clock, go for it. I don't believe you will be disappointed.
