The highly anticipated chair arrived dingy. There were chips of the OSB (top rate construction!) flaking from inside and sticking to the outside fabric. Yet, those nitpicky observations would soon be the least of my worries.1. The "instructions" fail to note that the holes are not aligned, and are so poorly drilled that only one of the four would actually hold a screw.
2. That's assuming you can find -- and get to the "holes", as you will be working blind.
3. Say hello to contorting your arm (and a mighty thin arm it must be) through the raw-chopped slit in the fabric.
4. Note that you are likely to rip the entire back off the chair trying to grope around for all four holes, much less insert a screw in any of them.
5. I was now lying half on my back, with my hand getting splinters trying to feel the holes around the crumbling OSB wood.
6. At this angle, I could also see the chimp-worthy job of wildly shooting a few giant staples along the fold of the heel seam (no need for straight lines, fit or smoothness).
7. Finally, I jerry-rigged the beast so that the one screw was seated (!!) and one was loosely connected (the hole was drilled at an angle so that only a couple threads would catch and none of the others would hold). The others just fell out, so I gave up and righted the chair for a look.
6. It was so uneven, it looked like the result of a 20-foot tall party girl on a walk of shame after too much cheap booze and dancing, tilted and wobbling. I tried to sit down, but nearly fell off from the tilt -- and unseated that 2nd clinging screw.
7. Still trying to be optimistic, I carefully slid it to a rug, instead of the hardwood floor. No help.
8. I was ready to set it on fire by now, and it certainly would go up in flames in a heartbeat. I'd left a trail of OSB flakes behind me.
9. I've walked away to cool off. The thing is so heavy it would cost me a fortune to send it back, if that's even possible. I can only dream of using it for target practice in a field. I would kick it, if that wasn't such a bad pun. I just hate it. If I had the energy to do a video review, I believe it could win Sundance, or at least America's Funniest Home Videos! (There may be something to that!)
10. I would give it a MINUS FIVE HUNDRED STARS if I could.
P.S. The bright red white and blue TAG that says "MADE IN USA!" made me want to cry. Is this REALLY what we've become? DO NOT BE LIKE ME: RIPPED OFF BY AN EXPENSIVE PIECE OF TRASH!
