***Update: After 9 washes with doubled detergent and hot water, this blanket smells acceptable. There is still a faint scent of oil/factory to it, but it's far better than before. If you're willing to wash the crap out of your Barefoot Dreams product, then I'd say go for it. This blanket is SO soft. I love it now that it isn't quite so stinky.

I received this blanket in the size Queen/King and in the color 'cream' for my birthday. I adore the way it feels. It's like squeezing a cloud, and it is so very soft. However, it smells rancid. After washing it twice, once with cold water like the care instructions suggest, and once with hot water and extra detergent, I discovered that it still smelled like an oily factory. It's a difficult odor to explain, 'chemically laden' comes to mind. The scent is quite overwhelming for me since I have a sensitive olfactory nerve :\

Unfortunately after washing it for a third time, the smell is the same. Whatever chemical or substance that is laced into this blanket is not going anywhere. It reaks :( I'm so disappointed. According to most of the reviews for Barefoot Dreams' products, only one other person seems to be having this same problem. I'm wondering if we got blankets from a 'bad batch,' or if we both have a heightened sense of smell. I'm not sure, but all of my other blankets and linens smell wonderful to me after having been washed with the same methods as this blanket. I'll give this company one more try and buy a throw, but if it arrives with the same offensive smell I'm giving up. I'm so bummed!
