Pros:
-Trash can is super sturdy, has a heavy base, and is hard to tip. Our 40 lb dog got into it only once, and that was when the lid didn't close all the way when we overfilled it. Our dog has been craftily getting into every other garbage can we tried. This is the first one he can barely move.
-The lid opening/closing is pretty sick. It's fast enough that if you've got some drippy stuff you can smack that lever open and dispose of things quickly. The no-noise closing was a luxury at first, but now I realize how my ears have been violated in the past.

Cons:
-Like another reviewer stated, the buckets are an odd size to get trash bags for. The closest I came up with is an 8 gallon bag and making a knot at the opening so the bag will fit snugly over the lip of the bucket. Simple human gives you 3 liners to start you off. They fit perfectly, but to buy them all the time as trash bags is a little ridiculous.
-When changing the bags out, reseating the buckets is a little annoying. If not seated perfectly, the lid will not close all the way. I have to wiggle it every time to get it right. I got used to this small inconvenience, but my husband could never get it right.

If you find yourself stuck with the recycler version like me, you CAN change out the bucket to be a single bucket. The simple human web site sells replacement buckets. I inquired with them, and they told me that the single bucket wouldn't fit, but I got it anyway. And it DOES fit. Now I can happily put my 13 gallon bags in without fuss.

UPDATE: Our dog has now figured out how to tip this heavy trash can over. I can't imagine any other trash can being more durable, unless it has a special latch system. We'll be looking to anchor the trash can down to prevent further tipping.
